Our Buzz On Biz
Across Arizona and America

Stevenson Photography is thrilled to be celebrating its 25th year in the Arizona commercial photography business. Our longevity is based on our photographic skills, professionalism and returning clients who appreciate and rely on great photography. Let us demonstrate that spark for you. In the meantime, we wish you a very enjoyable summer.

What We've Been Up To... (previous notes):

July 11
After a great holiday break, we've jumped back into the flames. Literally. This week, we're working in 111 degree desert temps. Wish we had a job in Washington State or Idaho! Actually, Ryan did have a shoot for a major power plant construction company in Washington State earlier. He was there for six days until Mother Nature blessed him with 30 minutes of sunlight. Yes, the client - who is familiar with the challenging climate of the area - was thrilled with his work. We are shooting a massive, high tech data center this week, inside and out, the size of two football fields.

June 27
Our emotions were on a roller coaster this past week. On June 20, a massive forest fire broke out near Flagstaff, Arizona where family members have a country home. Within 24 hours the fire had grown to 10,000 acres while Ryan (co-owner of this business) and his brother looked on from a roadblock. Nearly 1,400 homes were evacuated. High winds pushed the inferno all the way to our property line before slurry bombers dropped their fire retardant along our back fence line. Nearly a 1,000 firefighters continue to fight this fire which has now consumed over 15,000 acres. We're back to work now, and hopeful our nightmare is over.

June 20
This past week, we were busy with business portraits both in studio and on location. As the economy slowing revs up its engine, more and more businesses - large and small - are seeing the value once again in fine still photography to market their businesses. Officially, this is the first week of summer, but here in Arizona we've been experiencing summer temperatures since May. And for Arizona commercial photographers, summer is often the slowest months of the year. But, for whatever reason, we are booking jobs all the way through August right now. And, for that, we are grateful. Photography is one of those rare professions where we love what we do, and do what we love. Let us share some of that love with your next photo project.

June 9
Summer is sizzling. Both the desert temperatures and our assignment schedule have been skyrocketing. Ryan is due back from the Midwest after a shoot and Don is in northern Arizona this week. Our photographer friends report they've been getting busy with new assignments. We have been busy since mid January.
That's a good barometer for the U.S. economy.

June 2
After a relaxing Memorial Holiday in the cool pines of northern Arizona, we're back having fun with our photography. We just finished a big shoot for an international electrical company based in France which had a need for environmental business portraits at one of its customers. And now we're preparing for a host of business portraits on location in the coming weeks.

May 21
Well, it was bound to happen. We're just surprised we didn't anticipate it before. We're known throughout the US as location photography specialists and we provide photography solutions to many in the agriculture industrial of America. So, much of our work is in the field and in the studio making ag products like produce look appetizing. Well, no sooner did we finish a produce shoot than we are asked to photograph a new waste treatment facility in California by a national building of these facilities. Both jobs represented the opposite ends of the aroma scale. Actually, we were surprised at how far the waste treatment industry has come over the years. The indoor facility was clean, spacious and nearly void of the smell of human waste. (Key work here is "nearly.") We learned a lot and made some great images for this construction company.

May 9
We took a breather this week to catch up on our office work after a very busy April. Ryan's been busy assisting Sports Illustrated with NBA basketball playoffs and Don continues to work on a book project. It's starting to warm up around the Arizona desert, so while the rest of the country is welcoming their summer, we Arizonans will be frying eggs (and feet) on sidewalks and car hoods! Actually, with the amount of travel Ryan and I do, we'll be enjoying the weather in many other parts of the country this summer.

April 26
Last week was a barn-burner with a three-day shoot for a national dental association, two portrait shoots and three estimates (Phoenix, Minneapolis, Salt Lake). It's time for a breather this week to catch up with our office work and shoot three portraits on location for a large firm in Phoenix on Tuesday.

April 19
We have a busy week ahead of us. We have a planning meeting with a large corporate, a three-day conference shoot and Ryan will also be assisting Sports Illustrated later in the week at a Coyote playoff hockey game. Got a photo project upcoming? We'd love to meet with you.

April 12
Last week was jam-packed with photo shoots for clients. We enjoyed each one. This week gives us a chance to catch our breath before jumping back into the fire. We had a chance to get out this past weekend to southern Arizona and the Organ Pipe National Monument. The wildflowers are at their best; probably the best in nearly 25 years. It's a photographer's candy land.

March 28
If the rest of the economy across America is gearing up as much as it has been for our company the past eight weeks, then this recession just may be on its last legs. Let's hope. This week we'll be shooting an industrial job for an Atlanta advertising agency. As well, we will be photographing unique retail products in our studio set up on location at the company's warehouse. And we currently have two portraits scheduled, one on location and one in our Tempe studio. It's good to be busy.

March 15
Ryan will be assisting on a Sports Illustrated Magazine shoot, while Don will be meeting with two new clients to discuss upcoming shoots later this month and in April. By the end of the week, Ryan, Cameron and Don will be photographing a kayak project (someone has to do it)!

March 6
It's sunny and it's warm here in Phoenix. And it's a great time of year to be outside photographing for our clients. This past week we did a large construction shoot for a new client involved with high tech server farms. We also photographed a new board of directors for a Phoenix foundation. And, we completed an environmental portrait for a national magazine cover. Things are rolling!

February 26
What a week! We completed a two-day shoot for a rapidly growing vitamin-supplement manufacturing company in the United States with worldwide clients. This is a new client, with great products and great people to work with. Now we are preparing for another large Phoenix corporate photography shoot next week, as well as a national magazine cover shoot.

February 21
We're working on a major marketing project for an international vitamin supplements manufacturing factory this week as well as an environmental portrait for a national Wells Fargo publication.

February 10
We just finished two executive portraits for a Detroit law firm with offices in Phoenix. The firm needed images within three hours after the actual shoot, which of course, we gladly accommodated. We're now preparing for a large business conference here in Phoenix for a midwest company.

February 2
I think most of us are glad 2009 is behind us. I know we are! In just the first four weeks of this new year we've seen a big jump is assignment work from corporate clients across America. We're excited with the new clients who've discovered our creative talents. Next week we'll be photographing a number of corporate portraits here in Phoenix.

Jan. 25
Along with just about everyone else in the photography business, 2009 was a challenging year. Several good friends in the photo business have reluctantly switched careers. It's a shame because they too are good photographers. With 25 years of experience in good and bad economies, we were well prepared for this recession. This country is slowing coming out of these tough times and we're ready to assist those companies who are ready to move forward with their advertising and marketing photo needs. We sincerely wish you and yours a much better 2010.

December 10
All is well here in Arizona with the year winding down and a few new projects winding up.  We will have plenty of new announcements coming for 2010 - lots to be thankful about for sure. All of us at Stevenson Photography On Location want to wish you and yours a very enjoyable holiday season. Merry Christmas.

December 3
The holidays are here which means there's just a couple of weeks to get the work done and close out 2009. In spite of a difficult economy, we are seeing many signs of new business activity with our clients. We've received more than a dozen requests for photo job estimates in the past month, and ten of those have already come through. In the meantime, two of our crew just returned from the Midwest where they were busy photographing the harvest. They even had the opportunity to drive those monster tractors and combines.

November was a crazy month for us, and we're not complaining. We had a shoot in Mexico, in Iowa and several across our home state or Arizona. Business is most certainly picking up; not like 2006-07, but very good nonetheless.

We're into October already and the summer heat has finally subsided. Our crew was shooting in the White Mountains this past week - both stills and video. We're now back to Tempe - Phoenix. Consider us for your next photo project whether it's here in Arizona or nationwide.

The last summer holiday has past, and in Arizona that means the 110 degree temps soon will depart and the next nine months will be absolutely delightful. Here at Stevenson Photography, we've noticed an uptick in business activity the past month. We've received several calls from out-of-state businesses seeking new photography. It's time to roll up the sleeves and get busy again!

It's mid August and we just returned from our summer vacations recharged and ready to start shooting again.

We're nearing the end of July and we are shooting 20 locations for a commercial management company. This time of year in Phoenix, things slow down, especially when the temps float above 110 each and every day. So, if you have a project under consideration, give us a call to discuss it.

Well, Independence Day holiday has come and gone, and we're back at it. Our team just finished shooting both in studio and on location for an up and coming singer's CD and website. We're now prepping for a lifestyle shoot in a new home, around the pool and BBQ. Should be good talent, good food and good times. It's for a great client.

Last month, our photo company was busier than many of our other friends in the business. For that we are thankful. We've seen a significant increase in requests for estimates and bids in just the past 30 days. Maybe, just maybe all that stimulus is starting to kick in.

Part of our crew was in Mexico for the Memorial Day holiday participating in a working vacation. Isn't that an oxymoron? Working? Vacation? Hey, these guys make every photo shoot a holiday!

On our commercial and advertising photography shoots, we have the opportunity to work with a variety of talent, models and actresses. Last November, we did a two-day shoot for a national eye wear company based out of Minnesota. Model Shari Wiedmann of Phoenix was one of the talent on this shoot, and what a delight she turns out to be. Now we learn that she is featured in a successful music video, starring as a wife and mother cheated on by her video husband. This past week, the video surpassed 1 million views on YouTube. Check it out.

Recently, we had the opportunity to photograph an up-and-coming young singer who is preparing her first CD. The multiple location shoots will be used on the cover of her CD and her website. We'll be finishing the shoots with her by the end of May.

Over the past six weeks we've had the opportunity to shoot several jobs for a Phoenix - Tucson company photographing construction material they manufacture. Construction industry has been hit hard in Arizona, but these folks are doing the right thing: marketing now before their competitors do.

In late April we had a big, three-day event shoot for a national dental convention. The previous week Ryan assisted Sports Illustrated with a photo shoot in Las Vegas while Don and Cameron were at both the University of Arizona in Tucson and Arizona State in Tempe photographing graduating scholars for a non-profit organization.

Holy smokes, it's the second quarter of the year already. Why didn't time fly this fast when we were in school. Now, as adults, there's no slowing down the hands of time. Recently, we photographed two jobs for the National Education Association, one shoot of a company's board of directors and a product shoot for a manufacturer of construction material. No, construction is not completely dead.

Last month, we returned from Mexico where the Stevenson crew photographed three days of stock images for our five stock photo agencies. We turned right around and did an magazine editorial shoot for a national publication, photographing the CFO and FIO for the cover story.

As well, Stevenson Photography photographed aviation equipment for a California based manufacturer and portraits for a law firm's website. We are now preparing to shoot two executives on location for a national hospital group. Following that shoot, part of the Stevenson team will be in Mexico for a three-day shoot, mostly on an almost deserted seven mile beach. (Someone has to do it).

We are pleased to announce our newest photography website which went live in January. This site ( www.arizonapix.com) will remain on the internet for several months and will be continually updated. We are keeping it online so all of our clients - new and old - will find our new domain name and site at www.stevensonphotography.com. Our arizonapix.com name no longer represents all that we do photographically. Though we are based in Arizona and many of our great clients reside here too, our national and international work has surpassed 60% of our assignment work. We also have big plans for arizonapix.com. Later this year, this domain name and website will transition into our Arizona stock photography e-commerce site while our assignment photography business will be at home at www.stevensonphotography.com.

We started off the new year with a wonderful photo shoot in Mexico, followed by two industrial shoots for an aviation parts manufacturing company based in Los Angeles.

It's late December and we are now working on a redesign of this website. We'll be going live with the new site in mid January. Lot's of great photos and information to show you. After an incredible holiday season with family, the Stevenson team is back at it photographically. We are pumped for 2009. Give us a call. Let's discuss your next photography project.

Our friend Don Giannatti and his compadres at steelid put the finishing touches on a fun, new website Stevenson Photography conceived: www.eatmorechiles.com. We hope you'll take a moment to check out this red hot site. And, if you or your company is in need of a web face lift or a complete makeover, then Don Giannatti is as innovative and creative as web designers come. We wouldn't think of using anyone else. Don G. also is a primo photographer of professional models, is a highly-acclaimed national speaker on photographic lighting techniques and shoots weddings with a unique style and grace. Gosh, he and his team even have time to design classy websites for photographers. Don does sleep... when he's on airplanes.

Also in December, we photographed several environmental portraits in Phoenix for a Wells Fargo sponsored project. As well, we produced 40 standardized business portraits on location at a day-long national corporate meeting in Arizona.

In November, our photo staff finished a shoot for a major international aviation parts manufacturer - a good client of ours for the past several years. Before that, we were on location at a ranch in northern Arizona doing a multi-day shoot for America's largest eye wear manufacturer. It is putting together a new campaign for 2009. Based in the Midwest, this corporation did an internet search a few months ago, conducted interviews with various location photographers and selected Stevenson Photography On Location. We're excited to be producing the advertising and marketing materials for this first-class corporation.

And, a couple weeks ago, we were on location at a number of Arizona towns photographing for a travel magazine.

On a recent shoot, Ryan Stevenson was in southern Arizona finishing photography at a chile pepper farm. A story on Arizona chiles is featured in the October issue of an Arizona travel magazine.

Mid-August found Ryan Stevenson in Iowa photographing livestock, an ethanol plant and a restored 1950s Texaco Station. And while Ryan was back there eating the world's best sweet corn everyday, Don was photographing in Arizona. He first photographed large pieces of dental equipment for a manufacturer's catalog. A  national magazine in D.C. requested Don photograph an officer with a large children's hospital. That was followed by a shoot in Phoenix for Cigna Health based in Philadelphia. And, in a driving monsoon  rain storm, Don photographed an editorial magazine story for a large religion-based magazine on evangelizing immigrants. It was a diverse and fun week for Stevenson Photography on Location.
